Overview

Yorkshire and the Lake District are home to many of the best-known and most-loved gardens in England. This 15-day tour takes you through some of the most dramatically beautiful countryside in England as these gardens – from great estates to those on a more intimate scale – burst into full bloom. Join garden historian and classicist, Michael Turner, and get to know both the gardens and the world of passionate men and women: the garden designers, artists and poets, such as Capability Brown, Gertrude Jekyll, Wordsworth and Ruskin, who have created some of England’s most enduring cultural heritage.

Enjoy

  • The glory of early summer in England, from the Pennines to the North Yorkshire moors, from the wild coast of Northumberland to the majestic Lake District
  • Garden history: from 18th-century landscapes to modern-day innovation
  • Great garden designers: Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, Gertrude Jekyll and contemporary luminaries Arabella Lennox-Boyd and Piet Oudolf
  • The Romanticism of Lakeland poets, authors and artists: William Wordsworth and John Ruskin
